About The Scandinavian Shop

We opened our doors on Helensburgh's high street in 1973, which makes us the longest-serving shop in Scotland dedicated to Scandinavian design. Over fifty years later, we're still here — same location, same passion, even more to choose from.

The shop was born from an appreciation for Scandinavian design and craftsmanship. We love the idea that the things you use every day should be beautiful, considered, and built to last. And that philosophy hasn't changed. But what has changed is our range, which has grown from those early Scandi staples into a carefully chosen (but wide-ranging) collection spanning gifts, homewares, toys, glass, ceramics, lighting, kitchenware and tech gadgets from makers in Sweden, Finland, Denmark and northern Europe.

Over the decades we've built real, lasting relationships with the makers and brands we stock. We've carried iconic brands like Kosta Boda, Iittala and Kay Bojesen ever since the shop first opened. And alongside those enduring names, we've kept an eye out for newer voices in Scandinavian design, which is why the shop never quite feels like it's standing still.

Our owner Lucy has a talent for curating pieces that are both timeless and a little surprising, and making sure the collection holds together as a whole. And that's one of the reasons the shop is so loved - we've been in Helensburgh for so long, and are known as the place to pick up the best cards and gifts, or something for your home that feels a little bit different.

We love it when someone walks in knowing nothing about Scandinavian design and leaves with their first piece of Swedish glass, a Flensted mobile, Moomin mug or a wooden Lovi decoration. But we love it just as much when Nordic visitors come in and clock something from their childhood — a Kay Bojesen monkey, an Iittala Aalto vase, a Hoptimist — and get that look of recognition.  Both make us happy. That's exactly what we're here for.

As well as our Helensburgh shop, we sell online and ship throughout the UK, Europe and worldwide, so wherever you are, you can get a little Scandinavian happiness through the post.
